Two Chinese nationals who were charged in relation to possession of forged Tongan passports and released on bail last week, are prohibited from leaving Tonga.

Police earlier reported that the woman had tried to leave Tonga allegedly on the forged Tongan passport after they both entered on Chinese passports on October 11.

Min Wang and her male co-accused Nai Yan Cheung were arrested by police at Fua'amotu International Airport on October 15.

Last week the Magistrate's Court released them on bail of $2,000 each until January 20, 2014 for their case to be submitted to the Supreme Court for trial. They have surrendered their passports to the Tonga Police and are prohibited from travelling abroad.

Wang was subsequently charged with three counts including possession of a forged passport, use of a forged passport and possession of an unlawful passport, while Cheung was charged with abetment.

Following their arrest they were ordered to be kept in police custody until October 24.
