Man dies after falling from van [1]

A 24-year-old man from Nukunuku died on Friday evening October 18 after he allegedly fell from a van in an accident in Nuku'alofa. Two other persons are in hospital for injuries sustained from separate road accidents.

The Police Commissioner Grant O’Fee said they suspected that the victim, who was a passenger, fell from the van while it was heading eastward on By-Pass Road at Tu’atakilangi.

He said the 18-year-old driver also from Nukunuku had been charged with manslaughter by negligence and driving without a licence. He was released on bail by a magistrate until November 25, 2013.

Injuries

Meanwhile, a five-year-old boy who was hit by a van at Holonga on Friday, October 18 is reported to be in critical condition at Vaiola Hospital. A 45-year-old man from Lapaha has been charged with negligent driving is expected to appear in court on October 30.

Police also reported that a 13-year-old boy was in a stable condition in hospital after sustaining head injuries and scratches in a road accident at an intersection between Hoi and Kolonga. He was allegedly hit by a van while he was riding his bicycle on Wednesday, October 16. A 42-year-old man from Ma'ufanga has been charged with negligent driving.
