Policeman accused of stealing exhibits [1]

A suspended Lance Corporal appeared at the Mu’a Magistrate’s Court on October 9 for theft of bottles of liquor which were kept as police exhibits.

Paula Falevai (45) has pleaded not guilty to one count of theft of allegedly stealing five bottles of liquor valued at $250 pa'anga in total on December 9, 2012. The items were police exhibits kept at the Vaini Police station where he worked.

A summary trial was held before Magistrate Salesi Mafi last Wednesday.

The prosecution closed its case and the Magistrate adjourned the case for a date to be confirmed in November for the defence to open its case.

The accused was represented by Teisina Fifita.
