Tatafu Moeaki (41) is the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Finance and National Planning for the next four-years.

He moves to the new post after being the CEO of the Ministry of Commerce, Tourism and Labour for over three-years.

The Minister for Commerce, Tourism and Labour Hon Dr Viliami Latu said Moeaki led the Ministry through a growth period increasing the Ministry’s direct budget resources more than three-fold over the years and forged strong partnerships between Government and private sectors to double the registration of businesses by the end of 2012.

Government had endorsed the Ministry's policy framework for reforms to improve the business environment, policy options for the private sector, the 2013-18 Tourism Roadmap, strategy for small medium enterprises and corporate management that has led to the Ministry's improvements over the last three-years, said the Minister.

Moeaki joined the civil service at the Central Planning Department in 1995 and took up key Government positions, including the first Head of the Policy and Planning Division at the Ministry of Education and Deputy Secretary for Foreign Affairs. He has postgraduate qualifications in econometrics and quantitative studies.

He replaces Tiofilusi Tiueti who resigned from the post in May this year and is now working as an advisor at the World Bank in Washington DC.

The Public Service Commission is in the process of recruiting a new CEO for the Ministry of Commerce, Tourism and Labour.
