A Senior Commissioned Police Officer who was on suspension without pay for alleged involvement in corruption activity with criminals has been charged with assault.

The Police Commissioner Grant O’Fee said the assault charge was unrelated to the matter under investigation.

"We had the initial investigation on the alleged connection in corruption and I suspended him for two weeks which was extended for another two weeks. During this period the assault took place and he was further suspended until trial," said Commissioner O'Fee.

The accused officer was first suspended on August 22, 2013.
