Tonga College ex-student recovers from coma [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Wednesday, October 9, 2013 - 17:48

Taniela Halahuni has made a remarkable recovery from a coma after sustaining severe head injuries during a violent attack by Tupou College students in July.

The 22-year-old Tonga College ex-student was in a coma and in critical condition for over two weeks following the attack at a home in Tofoa on the night of July 18, 2013.

Dr Saia Piukala said Taniela was discharged from the hospital over a month ago after making a full recovery.

“He is doing well and is walking and talking fine and back to his normal self. His recovery is a saving grace in this rift between Tonga College and Tupou College,” said Dr Piukala.

A total of 151 accused have been charged in relation to the attack, including 147 Tupou College students and four adults. They are scheduled to appear at the Nuku'alofa Magistrate's Court on November 18-21.
