Tonga Police are seekng DNA tests to help identify two individuals who died in separate incidents.

DNA samples will be sent overseas to confirm the identity of the skeletal human remains discovered in a cliffside area at Veitongo and also of  a young man who died in a house fire at Halaleva in Tongatapu.

The Acting Police Commissioner ‘Unga Fa’aoa said the Police would release both identities soon. "We plan to hold an inquest this week based on the evidence we have, while DNA samples will be sent to either New Zealand or Australia soon in regards to both cases," he said.

The skeletal remains were found in a remote cliffside area at Veitongo on the southern coast of Tongatapu on June 25. A briefcase containing several documents including a Tongan passport and a rope hanging from a nearby tree was also found.

The other remains to be identified were of a young man of about 19-years-old who died in a house fire on July 7 at Halaleva in Tongatapu.
