A Tongan performing arts group will perform their theater production "Kuonga" in Nuku'alofa tonight, after touring New Caledonia for five weeks.
"Kuonga" is a collaborative creation by two performing arts groups, On the Spot from Nuku'alofa, and the Pacifque et Compagnie from New Caledonia.
Creative director Ebonie Fifita said the 90 minutes long original theatre piece is, perhaps, the first locally-produced show starring a cast of young Tongans and played in both Tongan and English.
"You will be taken on a adventure through the life of Hina and Sinilau growing up in our society with its widening generation gap and the growing concern for young people of identity. The play is filled with messages which every audience decodes differently, and of course lots of laughter, dance and song," she said.
The cast includes the Fifita family (Yvane Chan, Ebonie Chal and Nisyola Kavatahi Fifita) along with Nabile Mercy Kafalava, Kaufonoga He Lotu Pulu and Vaimoana Va'epopua Melissa Soakimi; under the direction of Adeline Blaimont, Isabelle de Haas and Steev Maka L.
Kuonga is being performed at The Dojo, a Havelu warehouse in the area behind the TASA office.
