State Opening of Parliament June 13 [1]

The 2013 Session of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga will have a state opening by HM King Tupou VI on Thursday, June 13 at Parliament House.

The Clerk of the House, Gloria-Guttenbeil Pole'o said prior to the state opening three nobles are expected to 'softly close' a Special Session of the Legislative Assembly on Friday, June 7.

The special session was opened on March 7 to urgently deliberate five bills submitted from government.

Acts

The House sat for three-days and passed four of the five bills which included a Pacific Games Organization Bill 2013, an Act of the Constitution of Tonga (Amendment) Bill 2013, a Land (Amendment) Bill 2013 and a Legislative Assembly Amendment Bill 2013. 

The House deferred an Act of Constitution of Tonga (Amendment No. 2) Bill 2013 to the Standing Law Committee.

King Tupou VI has assented to the four Bills, which have since been gazetted.
