Organiser Lennie Niit, the president of the Tonga Judo Association, reported that the closing match of the tournament was an exciting final of the Championship between Samiu Taumoepeau of Liahona High School and Va'emolo Fonua of Tonga High School. Samiu won the match for Liahona High School. In second place was Va'emolo Fonua for Tonga High School, and the third place was shared between Meki Tu'inukuafe for 'Apifo'ou College and Sione Fotu'aika for St Andrew's.

Lennie said that Judo training in schools commenced early 2005 when 'Apifo'ou College and Liahona High School both accepted an offer to set up judo classes as part of their sports curriculum. "Saturday's tournament was the first time for these judoka to test their strength against each other."

One of the weight categories was designated as the first ever School Judo Championship. There were also other weight categories with 30 judoka competing in nine weight categories, with a total of 57 matches fought over a period of three hours.
