A 34-year-old man of Asian origin died in a road accident on By Pass Road in Halaleva this morning, Tuesday November 6.

Police Commissioner Grant O'Fee said the victim, who lived at Fua'amotu in Tongatapu, died during the road accident, which happened around 9:30am.

He said the driver of the vehicle had been arrested and charged with manslaughter by negligence and would be remanded in police custody at the Central Police Station for 48 hours. 

The accused is to appear at the Nuku'alofa Magistrate's Court on November 12. Meanwhile, police are still investigating the accident, said Commissioner O'Fee.
