A 36-year-old woman who was charged with manslaughter by negligence after she allegedly ran over her husband with her vehicle at Kameli, Neiafu, Vava'u, was released on bail last Friday, October 19.

Police in Neiafu confirmed that the husband, Michael Guttenbeil, died from serious injuries on October 10, the day of the accident.

Michael's wife, the accused, Roma Guttenbeil was released on bail on October 19, until her next court appearance on Tuesday, November 6 in Neiafu.

Roma was released on bail under conditions that she surrender her passport to the court, and is prohibited from traveling outside of Vava'u and Tonga. She has one surety of $2,000 pa'anga, according to Neiafu Police.

Dispute

Police in Nuku'alofa had earlier reported that the incident occurred during a dispute between the deceased and another family on Wednesday, October 10.

The dispute broke into a fight along Tu'i Road at Kameli. It was alleged that the accused drove her Pajero van at a group of men to break up a fight, but in the process ran over her 36-year-old husband, and also collided with a brother-in-law who suffered broken legs.
