Heavy rainfall over southern Tonga causes flooding [1]

Flooding outside the Talamahu Market in central Nuku'alofa at mid-day Friday.



Heavy rain fell over Tongatapu last night and early this morning causing flooding in many areas and early closure of schools for the day.

By 1pm Friday, 88.2mm of rain was recorded to have fallen over Tongatapu by the National Meteorological Centre at the Fua'amotu International Airport.

A wet weekend is forecast with more heavy rain expected for Tongatapu and ...‘Eua during the next 24 hours, and continuing showers to Monday.
