Three men of Asian origin who were charged with murder in relation to the death of a 44-year-old Nuku'alofa shopkeeper, were released on Friday, June 29 after Crown Prosecutions offered no evidence.

Deputy Police Commissioner Taniela Faletau said this morning, the three male suspects appeared at the Nuku'alofa Magistrate's Court on Friday.

" After review of the evidence and legal advice by the Solicitor General, Crown Prosecutions offered no evidence to the murder charges against the three male suspects of Asian origin, in relation to the death of a 44-year-old man of Asian origin."

Taniela said in the meantime, criminal investigation continues into the death.

Police had initially arrested the three men on Thursday, June 21 after search warrants were executed at their premises in Ma'ufanga, and were each charged with murder.

The three men were released on bail on Monday, June 25 by the Nuku'alofa Magistrate's Court.

The body of the 44-year-old man was found dead in his electronics maintenance shop in the CBD on Friday evening, June 15.

Police found the circumstances suspicious and treated it as a homicide investigation, as there were injuries to his head.
