Wednesday, May 30, 2012 - 19:07.  Updated on Monday, September 9, 2013 - 18:40.

A 35-year-old man has been charged in relation to the robbery at Tau'olunga Computer Centre in Fasi, while a police hunt continues for two other co-offenders.

The Acting Police Commissioner Taniela Faletau in the Police Weekly Crime Report said that the man from Navutoka had been arrested and charged with the robbery.

Evidence now suggested that three offenders were involved in the robbery and the police investigation was continuing.

The owner of the computer centre Firitia Velt was assaulted during the robbery on May 5, in which cash and computer accessories worth $4,337 were stolen.

Police had initially recovered a laptop stolen from the computer centre.

Forgery

Taniela said that Wednesday, May 23 two women both aged 26 from Longolongo, were arrested and charged with three counts of theft, falsification of accounts and forgery at a money transfer company, in Nuku'alofa. He did not name the company while their investigation continued, but said that the offenders were arrested after they received a complaint from the company, of the theft of $6,800 pa'anga.

Both women will appear at the Nuku'alofa Magistrate's Court on June 11.

Crime

Meanwhile, crimes slightly increased last week to 64 compared to 60 reported the previous week.

He said from May 21-27 theft continued to the most reported offence with 23, of which 15 were reported to the Nuku'alofa Central Police station. In the same period there were 14 assaults and 13 housebreaks.

He said due to the community's assistance by providing vital information to the police, they noted a drop in housebreaks to 12 compared to 18 reported the previous week.

He said that the Police continued to work together with the public to crack down on property offences. "We thank the members of the public for assisting us and ask that they continue to assist us," he said.
