Fine weather is forecast for the whole of Tonga during the Easter weekend, and the depression that brought the humidity and rain to Tonga since March 2 is expected to clear up by Thursday, April 5, according to the National Weather Forecast Centre at Fua'amotu,

'Ofa Fa'anunu, Tonga's Director of Meteorology, said that the cloudy and rainy weather that began yesterday was brought by Tropical Cyclone Daphne, a Ccategory 1 tropical cyclone that is moving away from Tonga. He said that the trough  dumped 75 mm of rain in 24 hours, between 10am yesterday and 10am this morning March 3.

By this afternoon, he expected Tropical Cyclone Daphne would be about 1000km to the south of Tongatapu moving southeast, and the weather should start to clear up by Thursday.

'Ofa said the strong wind warning previously in force for Vava'u, Ha'apai, Tongatapu and 'Eua land areas was cancelled at 11am this morning but heavy rain was forecast for all four island groups.

Meanwhile, the strong wind warning remains in force for all coastal waters of Tongatapu, 'Eua, Ha'apai and Vava'u, he said.
