Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, the self-appointed Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji, will officially opened the Pacific Islands News Association PINA's 2012 Pacific Media Summit on Tuesday, March 27 at the Lagoon Resort, Pacific Harbour, Fiji.
The official program of the Summit has not been released but a recent statement from the PINA office stated that Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama will be the 'chief guest' at the opening ceremony and the the keynote speaker will be delivered by John Lamani, a successful media owner from the Solomin Islands, and a PINA Life Member.
The PINA office went on to say that the presence of Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama at the opening of the Media Summit will be an opportunity for journalists who are members of PINA "to hear first hand his government's plan for national elections in 2014 and preparations now underway for a new constitution before the elections. . . ."
All requests by journalists for an interview with Bainimarama, according to PINA will be facilitated by the Fiji Prime Minister's office.
Regional membership of PINA has been on the decline during the past few years as journalists and National Media Organisations have either left PINA and joint other recently established regional media organizations or are just concentrating in running their own national media programs.
