THE charter vessel, the Ajang Subuh that will offer an interim inter-islands ferry service in Tonga is expected to arrive on April 16 from Malaysia, the Secretary for the Ministry of Transport 'Eleni Mone said.

The interim vessel is jointly funded by Australia, New Zealand providing $1.9 million each, while the Government of Tonga covers local costs and is responsible for onshore management arrangements.

'Eleni said in regards to management arrangements, such as the issue of the operator licence, is still being discussed and they would release details upon confirmation.

In the meantime, the new Olovaha ferry, which is currently under construction in Japan, is expected to arrive in Tonga in October later this year.
