Legislative Assembly resumes next week [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Tuesday, March 30, 2010 - 17:33.  Updated on Monday, September 9, 2013 - 18:40.

THE final session of the Tonga Legislative Assembly for 2009 would resume on Tuesday, April 6 and on the agenda is the Report of the Royal Constituency Boundaries Commission and Bills for the 2010 Political Reform.

The Chief Clerk of the House Viliami Latu said that when the House resumes next Tuesday, the agenda would focus entirely on matters regarding the Political Reform.

He said this would include the Report of the Constituency Boundaries Commission and the passing of bills that would be submitted to the house in relation to the reform.

He said the house would officially close on April 20.

Because the House did not officially close last year, it would then hold its official closing ceremony on April 20 and hold the usual ceremony of school children lining the streets and brass bands marching through the capital, he said.

2010 session

He added although no specific schedule has been confirmed at this time, the Legislative Assembly is set to officially open its 2010 session in June and run until just before November before closing its last session under the current system.

It is understood that when the house opens in June it would deliberate on matters such as the Budget.
