The Deputy Commander of Police Taniela Faletau said that three men and a woman were in a vehicle at the American Wharf at 5 am this morning when an armed man threatened them with a firearm.
The Deputy Commander said that the three men tried to overpower the armed man, and during their struggle one of the passengers, a 56-year-old man, was shot and wounded.
"The assailant then took off on foot and left behind his weapon and his vehicle.
"The wounded man was taken to hospital, and he was treated, then released."
The Deputy Commander said this afternoon that police had already identified the assailant, but they had not apprehended him.
