Rugby player dies in Saturday game [1]

A 26-year-old rugby player tragically died from spinal cord injuries that occurred during a rugby match on Saturday, April 17 at the Longolongo field in Nuku'alofa.

Viliami Finau, a prop for the Pili Development Rugby collapsed on the field following a scrum against the Halaleva Rugby Team.

Deputy Commander of Police Taniela Faletau in his Crime Report this week confirmed the victim was from Tungua residing in Pahu. He was rushed to the hospital but died soon after from severe spinal cord injuries.

The Deputy Commander confirmed a police investigation into the death of the young man had determined no foul play was involved.

Suicide

The police also reported that suicide deaths from January to April 2010 had rised to five, following the death of a 19-year-old boy who committed suicide in Tatakamotonga last week.
