The popular Billfish Bar and Restaurant on the Nuku'alofa waterfront celebrated its 15th birthday on May 4.
The owners John and Liz Sullivan marked the occasion with a week of celebration at the Billfish, including a special appearance of a cabaret entertainer from Auckland, New Zealand.
Liz recalled, how back in 1995 when they were trying to acquire a business licence, the difficulties that they had to go through to start up a business and the determination that she, John and a brother Alfred Cowley had to make it succeed.
Today the Billfish is a integral part of the nightlife in the capital.
"With the popularity of live bands coming back they are better places for people to meet and enjoy themselves," she said.
Some high points of their endeavors were catering for the Coronation Banquet Ball in 2008 and supporting or hosting special events including the Classic All Blacks tour of Tonga, and the Camel Trophy Race.
With regards to their services, she said that from the very beginning there was the bar and the restaurant, where they serve draught beer on tap and imported beers, and with the restaurant's specialty of sea food and steak.
Liz said that the Billfish catering service became popular after they provided the catering service for the coronation.
