A 47-year-old man has been charged in Leimatu'a, Vava'u, with manslaughter by negligence relating to the death of an eight-year-old boy who was run over by his vehicle on June 9.

Deputy Police Commander Taniela Faletau confirmed today, June 15, that the child died from a head injury while he was rushed to Prince Ngu Hospital in Neiafu.

The offender was arrested and had been kept in custody since June 9 until his release on bail on June 14.

The Deputy Commander said that the fatal accident was the third road death so far this year. A total of 11 people died from fatal accidents from January to December 2009.
