HM King George Tupou v appoints a new Chief Justice of Tonga [1]

HIS MAJESTY KING GEORGE TUPOU V in Privy Council yesterday, August 27 appointment Michael Dishington Scott as the new Chief Justice of Tonga.

Justice Scott, a British national has lived and worked in the Pacific islands since 1978.

He has served as a Judge in Kiribati and the Solomon Islands. He was a judge of the High Court of Fiji for 14 years from 1990 to 2004 before being appointed as the Resident Justice of the Fiji Court of Appeal for three years from 2004 to 2007.

A statement from the Lord Privy Seal stated that Justice Scott has been involved in most areas of the administration of justice, and has acquired a detailed knowledge and understanding of the constitutional and judicial
systems of Pacific Island countries.
