REGISTRATION of candidates for the 2010 Tonga General Election would be held for two days on October 21-22, Election Supervisor Pita Vuki said on September 14.

Registration will be open between 10am to 3pm on both dates. Tongatapu registration would be held at the Electoral Commission office in central Nuku'alofa, while registration in the outer islands would be held at each government offices in Vava'u, Ha'apai, 'Eua and Niua, he said.

Candidates must pay a $400 pa'anga registration fee and are also required to run in the constituency they registered and provide documents from the Supreme Court and Magistrate's Court to confirm having no criminal record

Candidates also have to provide 50 signatures of registered voters from the constituency they are running in.

Meanwhile, a number of candidates have started public campaigns, which they are allowed to do prior to the registration as candidates in the election to be held on November 25, 2010.
