Candidate falls off the Roll of Candidates [1]

Sione Keuate Tupouniua's name was struck off the list of candidates for this Thursday's Parliamentary Election this afternoon, November 23 by Chief Justice, Hon Michael Dishington.

The Hon Michael Dishington ordered the removal of Sione's name from the list of candidates, after a complaint was lodged with the Supreme Court in Nuku'alofa by the Attorney General that Sione had not paid an outstanding debt with the ANZ Bank.

The case between the Attorney General and the defendant was heard by the Chief Justice this afternoon and ordered for the
Supervisor of Elections to remove the defendant's name from the Roll of Candidates for the Tongatapu 1 electoral constituency, and to inform the electors of the removal of the candidate's name from the Roll of Candidates.

Sione Tupouniua a Harvard graduate from Kolomotu'a was registered in the Tongatapu Number 1 Constituency as candidate No. 5.

Matangi Tonga understands that there are two more cases of candidates with outstanding debts, one is being process by the Supreme Court and the other by the Magistrate Court.

With only one day before the election on Thursday, November 25 the candidate list now stands at 145.
