TONGA'S Supervisor of Elections, Pita Vuki, expects to close the Results of the Writ of Election today at 4:30 pm.

"We are trying now to see if we can Return the Writ of Election to the King tomorrow or on Monday, provided that no more candidates request to launch a recount," he said.

The period during which candidates may contest the results ends today and so far only one candidate, Saia Moehau in Tongatapu 6 had requested a recount, which had been completed, he said.

"There was no change in the difference and he was still four votes behind the leading candidate," said Pita. "There was a small change in the count: Bloomfield gained one vote and both Moehau and Tu'utafaiva lost one vote each."

Pita said the Writ of Election was made by the King on 30 September this year and the Writ stated the date of the election, the places of the polls and the date for the return of the Results of the Writ, which had to be presented to the King on or before Thursday 9 December 2010.

The Result of the Writ of Election is to be presented in audience at the time of an appointment that pleased the King.

Pita said that could be as early as tonight or possibly tomorrow or Monday, or if not then it could be any time up to December 9.
