Soft opening for First Session of Legislative Assembly [1]

The historical opening Tonga's newly reformed parliament on Thursday, January 13, will be "a soft opening", and in the absence of King George Tupou V there will be no fanfare, brass bands or marching school children.
The Acting Clerk of the House Sione Tekiteki confirmed today, January 10 that the Princess Regent HRH Princess Pilolevu Tuita will open parliament at 9.30 am.
King George V had apparently left the country on Saturday, January 8 and the Princess Regent Princess Pilolevu Tuita is expected to arrive in Tonga from New Zealand before Thursday.
