A 60-years-old 'Alaki man who was found dead from gunshot wounds outside his home on Saturday January 29 is believed to have taken his own life, police confirmed yesterday.

The police reported that it was the second suicide case in Tonga for 2011.

Deputy Commander Taniela Faletau said there was a drop in crime during the last week of January with 43 complaints compared to 79 the previous week.

Theft remained the most committed crime with 14 offences followed by 10 housebreaks, 7 assaults, 4 incidents of bodily harm, 3 indecent assaults, 2 caseds of willful damage and other minor offences.

A 29-year-old man from Ha'ateiho, residing at Haveluloto who was charged with indecent assault on an under-age girl, remained in police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Magistrate's Court on February 8.

A 23-years-old man from Nukunuku was charged with physical harm and assaulting a police officer while on duty on the morning of Friday 28 January.

The Deputy Commander said that the suspect injured the police officer while arresting him and had surrendered to the police the following day. He is scheduled to appear at the Magistrate's Court, Nukunuku on February 3.

Traffic offences during the week dropped to 132 compared to 175 last week.
