TONGA'S Night of Prayer (Po Lotu) for the people of the earthquake stricken city of Christchurch, New Zealand, was held at the Centenary Church of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga on Sunday evening, February 27, where nIne choirs from different churches joined in a memorial service.

The Night of Prayer was attended by the Prime Minister, Lord Tu'ivakano, the Deputy PM, Hon. Samiu Vaipulu, other Cabinet members and foreign diplomats.

The New Zealand High Commissioner Dr Jonathan Austin told the Tongan media that the memorial service was a fitting and a moving tribute.

"At this difficult time New Zealand deeply appreciates the thoughts and prayers of our friends and neighbours," said Dr Austin

"On behalf of the Government and People of New Zealand, I would like to thank the Government and People of Tonga for their messages of support, offers of assistance and contributions to emergency appeals."
