Fire razes Mermaid Bar and Restaurant in Vava'u [1]

The Mermaid Bar and Restaurant on fire.

The popular Mermaid Bar and Restaurant on the waterfront of Fungamisi, Neiafu, was razed by fire on Tuesday afternoon, May 10.

The Chief Fire Office in Vava'u, Viliami Huni said today May 12, that they were alerted by a caller at 4:15 pm on Tuesday, but when the fire services arrived, the place was already engulfed by the blaze, and all they could do was to stop it from spreading to neighbouring houses.

The premises were closed for business when the fire broke out.

Viliami said that the fire service was investigating the cause of the fire, and also trying to estimate the cost of the damage to the property.

The Mermaid Bar and Restaurant is owned by the Kaihea family of Fungamisi, Neiafu.
