'ITENI Helu (72) has become the first Tongan to receive the Silver Wolf Award, the highest scouting award by the Scout Association of the United Kingdom in recognition of his ongoing commitment and services to the Tonga Scouts Association.

Tonga's Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano presented the award to 'Iteni who is the Chief Commissioner of the Tonga Scouts Association, in a ceremony at the Prime Minister's Office in Nuku'alofa on July 20.

'Iteni has served 32 years said that he was very honored to receive the highest award for a scout and to be the first Tongan to receive it.

'Iteni, wearing the Silver Wolf suspended from a dark green and yellow neck ribbon, said he would continue his work at the scouts for life. A commitment he has carried out since he was younger and was a civil servant in government for many years.

Lord Tu'ivakano commended 'Iteni on the good work at the Tonga Scouts that carries out an important job in nurturing youths to become good men and leaders. "A job well done for Tonga," he added.

Attending the event were three high school students who will be attending the Tonga Scout Association at the World Scout Jamboree in Switzerland in August, They are Tevita Taufaloa from St Andrew's, Russell Makihele from Liahona, and Lakei Folau from Tonga College.
