WISE women launch new business network [1]

Women in Tonga are getting "Wise" and coming together in a new association that aims to create greater business opportunities by building a network of Women in Sustainable Enterprises.

Over 140 foundation members representing most sectors of Tongan enterprise have already joined the association called "Women in Sustainable Enterprises (WISE) Tonga Inc." to support its official launch on Saturday July 23. A special Market Day will showcase the enterprises of women at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall, in Nuku'alofa.

"We are excited at the enthusiasm from women with a heart for business evidenced by the initial registered members of over 140, representing both formal and informal sectors," said Robina Nakao, the founding President of WISE Tonga Inc. "Entry to the launch event is free, the public is welcome to attend and there will be many prizes to be won during the day."

The official launch of WISE Tonga Inc. starts at 10:00 am on Saturday with the Guest of Honour, the Minister of Education, Women's Affairs and Culture, Hon. Dr 'Ana Maui Taufe'ulungaki.

Many different enterprises ranging from professional and general services to manufacturing and retailing, will be showcased alongside traditional handicrafts and agriculture. It will be a fun day for all the family to celebrate the launch of the association. The Miss Heilala Pageant Contestants will make a guest appearance at 11:00 am.

About 10 members of the 'Ikale Tahi squad will make a special appearance at 11:30 am.

Women in Sustainable Enterprises (WISE) Tonga Inc. aims to create greater business opportunities for women in Tonga through the advancement of women with entrepreneurial spirit by offering training and mentoring with development of their ideas, business skills and ethics.

Formed as an incorporated body in July 2010, WISE Tonga Inc. welcomes a diverse membership from both the formal and informal sectors, including business leaders as well as home-based entrepreneurs and future business people; and values the creation of networking among its members in Tonga and overseas.
