Parliament adjourns until August 8 [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Friday, August 5, 2011 - 05:02.  Updated on Monday, September 9, 2013 - 18:40.

THE Tonga Legislative Assembly was adjourned this week until Monday August 8 to allow members of parliament to work on regulations and bills handed down from Parliament for consideration by various Standing Committees.

The Parliament's office in Nuku'alofa said most of these ordinances and regulations would be reconsidered by the Finance, Law and Social Committees before they were resubmitted to the House for further deliberation.

Siaosi Vete of the Parliament office said on August 4 that the Standing Committees had been sitting throughout this week.

The Speaker of the House, Lord Lasike, had returned to Tonga and resumed duty on August 2 after attending the 2011 Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference in London.
