Auckland, New Zealand

Wednesday, August 10, 2011 - 22:24.  Updated on Monday, September 9, 2013 - 18:40.

THE Prime Minister of New Zealand the Rt. Hon. John Key, will be delivering an address as of the "Pacific Islands Forum 40th Anniversary Leaders' Lecture Series" at the University of Auckland on 11th August 2011.

The speech is being hosted by The University of Auckland in collaboration with the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. It will be held at the University's Fale Pasifika.

"The 40th anniversary marks an important milestone for the region and its Leaders to consider how the region had performed with regional cooperation and integration," said Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Tuiloma Neroni Slade. Vice Chancellor of The University of Auckland, Professor Stuart McCutcheon, said that as New Zealand's premier university, they were delighted to host the "Pacific Islands Forum 40th Anniversary Leaders' Lecture Series".

"We are committed to producing leaders for tomorrow's world, and the Pacific, our immediate neighbourhood, is an important focus for our activities," said Professor McCutcheon. "We educate around 40 percent of all Pacific university students in New Zealand, and our magnificent Fale Pasifika, the home of our Centre for Pacific Studies, is a focal point of our long-standing research, cultural and development contributions to the region. "We are also proud to count many distinguished leaders in the Pacific amongst our alumni. Through our on-going education, professional training and academic opportunities, we will continue to equip Pacific graduates to assume positions of responsibility and leadership and to make their own valuable contribution to the Pacific region and to the world at large."
