Parliament adjourns for three weeks [1]

THE Tonga Legislative Assembly is adjourned today, August 29 until September 19 to again allow more time for various Standing Committees to work on matters referred for them, before they are resubmitted for the House to consider.

This is the second time that the house has adjourned this month. On the first adjournment, two weeks from August 5-15, the house remained in recess and allowed parliamentarians to deliberate on various bills and regulations resubmitted for consideration by various Standing Committees.

The Parliament's Office in Nuku'alofa said today, that the Speaker Lord Lasike announced the adjournment in parliament last week on Thursday, August 25.

Pending matters included tasks such as a public consultation to be conducted by the Law Standing Committee in Vava'u on the Royal Neiafu Township Ordinance 2010.

On August 15 the Legislative Assembly approved the Law Standing Committee to conduct public consultation in Vava'u on the ordinance around October.

The committee is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Samiu Vaipulu with members including Sifa Tu'utafaiva, Hon Dr 'Ana Taufe'ulungaki, Sione Taione, Lord Tu'i'afitu, Lord Lasike, Lord Tu'i'afitu and Clive Edwards.
