Cabinet quietly reshuffles portfolios [1]

GOVERNMENT has this month reshuffled its Cabinet Ministers in Police, Tourism, Justice and Labour to new portfolios and while the new Ministers have taken up their new posts, effective from Thursday, September 1, there has been no official statement announcing the changes.

Matangi Tonga has confirmed yesterday with individual Ministries that the new Ministers had indeed started with them, effective from September 1.

The new Minister of Police is Hon Lisiate 'Akolo who replaces former Minister of Police Hon Viliami Latu, who has become the new Minister of Tourism.

Hon 'Isileli Pulu formerly Minister of Tourism becomes the new Minister of Labour and Commerce, a portfolio formerly held by Hon. Lisiate 'Akolo.

Hon Clive Edwards is now the new Minister of Justice and assumes the portfolio of Public Enterprise. While the Inland Revenue a portfolio that was previously under him, has been moved to the Minister of Finance, Hon Sunia Fili.

The Deputy Prime Minister Hon Samiu Vaipulu who was formerly Minister of Justice retains the two portfolios of Minister of Transport and Works.

The Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano is away at the Pacific Islands Forum in Auckland has not made any public statement regarding the reshuffle and the reasons behind it.
