Tonga's Court of Appeal will deliver its judgements on 13 appeal cases in an open court on Friday, 30 September.

The Court of Appeal's second session this year began last week with its final session yesterday, September 26.

The 13 high profile appeals included John Jonesse's appeal against his five years imprisonment sentence for the death of 72 people in the MV Princess Ashika disaster. The Crown was also appealing the lesser sentences imposed on former Ashika Captain Viliami Tuputupu and former first mate Semisi Pomale.

The was an appeal by Liu Lirong against her conviction and 10 years imprisonment sentence for people trafficking, keeping a brothel and trading in prostitution in Tongatapu.

Perjury case

A spokesperson from the Supreme Court office said on September 26, that no date had been set as yet for the perjury trial of Ramsay Robertson Dalgety.

Tonga's Court of Appeal first in April upheld an appeal by the Crown against a decision by Justice Robert Shuster and ordered that the perjury indictment against Lord Dalgety be reinstated and referred back to the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court for trial.
