Electricity tariffs decrease [1]

Tonga Power are pleased to announce with international crude oil prices declining slightly, the landed cost of diesel in Tonga has correspondingly decreased.

The new electricity tariff for the Kingdom of Tonga will decrease by a total of 4.72 seniti to 93.28 seniti per kWh for electricity consumed in September on all four island networks. The new electricity tariff is effective from the meter readings taken as at the 1st of October 2011.

Electricity tariffs are regulated by the Electricity Act and administered by the Electricity Commission. The tariff adjustment is determined by a process set down in the Concession Agreement between Tonga Power Limited and the Electricity Commission. The Competent Authority is the Tongan Government Agency, which sets the landed price of diesel which Tonga Power Limited use for their power generation.

For Tongatapu, Vava'u, Ha'apai and 'Eua the current price is 98.00 Seniti per kWh. The decrease will be 4.72 Seniti per kWh and the new tariff is 93.28 Seniti per kWh.

The electricity tariff decrease is effective from the meter readings taken as at 1 October 2011. Press Release, Tonga Power Ltd. 29 September 2011
