The Government Secondary Schools, Tonga High School and Tonga College held their prize giving ceremonies this week, concluding the 2011 academic year for schools in Tonga.

Latuniupulu Craig Fine Fotu (18) is the Dux of Tonga High School 2011, which held its prize giving ceremony at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall, on November 30.

Latu from Ha'ano, Tongaleleka in Ha'apai, Vai ko Popua, Niuatoputapu, Fanga and Fasi mo e Afi, excelled in two subjects, topping Form 7 Biology and Physics.

The Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano accompanied by Lady Robyn Tu'ivakano, was the guest of honour at the prize giving.

He presented some of the top prizes, which included two special prizes from HM King George Tupou V for Form 6 students of $2,000 each for the top student in Accounting, Vakafutu Seau, and for the top student in French, Mele Moala.

Tonga College

Maeakafa Tu'inukuafe (18) of Houma in Vava'u, Haveluloto and Kolofo'ou is the dux of Tonga College 2011, which held their prize giving ceremony on December 1 at 'Atele.

Maeakafa, a form seven student, topped four subjects, physics, statistics, calculus and chemistry.

This is the second time Maeakafa, was awarded dux. He was the dux of St Andrews High School last year as a Form 6 student, before he moved to Tonga College for his Form Seven this year.

He received his award from Hon 'Etani Tuku'aho a fellow Tonga College student.
