The Tongan Ambassador to the USA, His Excellency Hon. Sonatane Tu'akinamolahi Taumoepeau Tupou presented his credentials to the President of the United States of America, His Excellency Mr Barack H. Obama at the White House, Washington DC on Wednesday 24 February 2010.

 

A statement from the Tongan Embassy, New York stated that the Tongan Ambassador to the USA made history in Capital Hill by being the first ambassador to have presented his Letter of Credential to three different president of the United Sates of America, to President Reagan, President Clinton and President Barack Obama.

On the occasion of the Tongan ambassador's presentation of his credential to President Barack H. Obama, he also had the opportunity to meet his colleagues from the Pacific, including HE Mr Winston Thompson, Ambassador of the Republic of the Fiji Islands, HE Mr Hersey Kyota, the Ambassador of the Republic of Palau, HE Mr Yosiwo P. George; Ambassador of the Federated States of Micronesia, and HE Hon. Eni F. H. Faleomavaega, Member of Congress of the United States of America.

 

 

 

 

 

Prior to Ambassador Tu'akinamolahi Taumoepeau Tupou presentation of his Credentials to President Barack Obama on 24 February he met the Chief of Protocol to the State Department HE Mrs Ambassador Capricia Marshall and other Department of State officials, including: Ms Glady Boluda, Assistant Chief of Protocol; Mr Karl Stoltz, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs EAP; Mr Ted Mann, Office Director, formerly a Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Suva; Mr Stephen Schwartz, Acting Office Director, EAP/Office of Australia, NZ and Pacific Island Affairs; Mr Paul Nevile, Foreign Service Officer in Language Training, formerly Peace Corps volunteer in Tonga.
