Lord Dalgety under house arrest [1]

Lord Dalgety the Company Secretary of the Shipping Corporation of Polynesia Ltd has been charged with perjury following his arrest at the Fa'onelua Convention Centre on Friday, February 26.
Deputy Police Commander Taniela Faletau confirmed today, that Lord Dalgety was released on Friday evening but on the condition that he remains under house arrest until a bail hearing set for Wednesday, March 3 at the Magistrate's Court, Fasi mo e Afi.
The Deputy Police Commander confirmed that the arrest was made on a charge of perjury but he did not want to further comment on the details as the matter is now with the court.
However, it was understood from those present at the time of Dalgety's arrest, that the perjury charge was in relation to Dalgety's evidence given at the Ashika Inquiry. He first appeared at the inquiry and gave a four-days of evidence from January 19-22 before falling ill. He was absent for several weeks before re-appearing on February 26 to complete his evidence.

Meanwhile, appearing at the Magistrate's Court this morning was the Ashika Captain Makahokovalu Tuputupu who has been charged with five counts of taking a passenger ferry out to sea, knowing that it was unseaworthy. His case was adjourned to a future date.
