Editor,
Thank you for providing a condensed version of the Ashika Inquiry testimonies. One thing struck me as I read Commander Lupeti Vi's statement on the incompetencies of some government officials that were involved in the Ashika incident. I went back and read the original transcripts on.
Interestingly I read through some testimony given by the current Minister of Transport, Lord Nuku. When questioned about his educational background we find that he had been studying at University for a year and a half in Hawaii not completing his course/program. Asked what he studied, he said "businesses"? You would think that after all that has happened, a new Minister would be someone who perhaps was more knowledgeable in maritime management I suppose? Why are incompetent officials replaced by more incompetence?
Another thing of interest to me, and if anyone can help me out, is understanding what the objective of the Ministry of Information and Communication is? Did government create a Ministry to spin its propaganda? Then what is TV/Radio Tonga and the Chronicle for? Too much money wasted for the same information issued by different outlets!
