Tonga's official foreign reserves for December 2009 reached $160.4 million, which was half a million pa'anga more than the November figure of $159.9 million.

The National Reserve Bank of Tonga stated that the December 2009 figure was also $36.5 million more than the $123.9 million figure for December 2008, and it reflected an increase in remittances during the month of December.

The $160.4 million figure is the equivalent of 6.8 months of imports of goods for Tonga.
