Tonga police are looking for a man who attacked a woman on a Tongatapu beach yesterday.

Commander Chris Kelley said today that Police had received a report from a 29 year old European woman that she was attacked and sexually violated at Keleti Beach at about 3 pm yesterday, Wednesday 30 December 2009.

"Detectives are investigating this serious crime, which happened on the beach in broad daylight. The woman, who was on her own, was attacked by a male person, believed to be Tongan. Police are asking people to come forward if they were in the area at the time and saw anything which may assist our inquiries," he said.

Commander Kelley said if anyone has any information they should contact the Central Police Station CID in Nuku'alofa.
