King attends Japanese reception [1]

The Japanese Ambassador to Tonga, HE Mr Yasuo Takase hosted a reception on Wednesday evening, December 9 to celebrate the 76th birthday of HM the Emperor of Japan and the 20th anniversary of his accession to the throne.

Ambassador Takase commented on the close relationship between the Tongan Royal Family and the Imperial Family of Japan symbolizing the warm and close relations between the two countries.

He said next year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Kingdom of Tonga. "To date Japan has provided over USD$230 million in grants to Tonga."

The Acting Prime Minister, Hon Dr Viliami Tangi responded to HE Mr Yasuo Takase's speech by thanking him for the generous assistance that Japan had given Tonga over the years.

The reception was held at the Ambassador's new official residence at 'Anana attended by HM King George Tupou V, HRH Princess Pilolevu Tuita, the Acting Prime Minister Hon Dr Viliami Tangi and invited guests, including the Japanese community and volunteers living in Tonga.

The Embassy of Japan was established on January 1, 2009 and its office is located on the top floor of the National Reserve Bank of Tonga.
