Families of Ashika victims to visit wreck site [1]

A special memorial service will be held today, August 25 at the site where the MV Princess Ashika sank, an open sea area 11kms SSW of Nomuka Island in remembrance of the many lives lost on August 5.

The Prime Minister's Office confirmed on August 24 that families whose loved ones were lost on the ferry would be taken to the site on the MV Pulupaki ferry departing around 5:30am on August 25.

This would also include families from the outer islands of Ha'apai and Vava'u who were expected to fly into the capital to join the special trip down to the wreck site.

The Princess Regent HRH Pilolevu Tuita and Crown Prince Tupouto'a Lavaka were also expected to join the memorial service travelling on a TDS navy vessel.

The memorial service at the site will include a prayer service and laying of wreaths and flowers at the open sea.
