Three years later: Call for commission to investigate 16/11 [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Sunday, July 26, 2009 - 09:10.  Updated on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 - 22:05.

Our Government and the People's Representative has been very quiet on the matter of setting-up an Independent Commission to investigate the events that lead up to the destruction and riot of 16 November 2006.

This is a normal practise within the civilized world. Who is trying to cover-up the truth about the riot.

It is time for the country to set up an Independent Commission to investigate as to the events leading up to, during and after the riot. The people and the country must be told the truth about the irresponsibility of the leaders involve with this riot.

Question of responsibility for the riot must be determine and documented and firm recommendations must be made to the people as to the best way to avoid this happening from occurring with in the Kingdom again.

Question of compensation of people and businesses that suffer damages because of irresponsible leadership in Tonga must be address by Parliament and the Government.

The economic burden place upon the nation to rebuild Nuku'alofa through loans must be considered carefully, because of the financial burden place on the nation for the next 20 years.

What happen on the 16/11/06? Who is responsible for the destruction of Nuku'alofa? Who should pay for the damages to compensate those who have lost their jobs, properties, businesses and life during the riot. Langafonua Tu'uloa Party, 24/07/09.
