A six-member group of European travel agents arrived in Tonga on June 27 on and an Air Pacific agents' four-days familiarisation and educational tour of the main island Tongatapu.
The tour is the second of its kind to Tonga since May this year and is aimed at giving agents first-hand experience of scenic sites, activities and accommodation. The agents are then able to promote Tonga as a destination with confidence.
Led by Ute Rosenberg, the Air Pacific Sales Manager in Germany the group included Air Pacific travel agents from Switzerland, Austria and a representative from Fiji.
They visited Fafa Island Resort, Liku'alofa Beach Resort and 'Oholei Beach Resort as well as the Black Pearl Suites, Lagoon Lodge, Little Italy, Tali'eva Inn and Loumaile Lodge.
Sam Tatafu the owner of Deep Blue Diving who took the agents on a cruise to Fafa Island Resort on Sunday, May 28 said these are tough times and he was glad some trips were being conducted.
"Our industry needs more marketing and it is important to get wholesalers to know Tonga is a destination that is unique and worth selling. Tourism needs this now more than ever," he said.
It is expected that a group of agents from New Zealand will tour Tonga in August and another from Australia later. The last familiarisation group tour that was in Tonga in May was from the United States.
The European Air Pacific agents depart Tonga today.
