John Cauchi was appointed as Tonga's new Attorney General effective from last week, Monday May 25, four days before the opening of parliament.

John, an Australian, is not new to Tonga, he was a senior Crown Counsel with the Crown Law Department during the 1990s. He also worked in the Solomon Islands as a Director of Public Prosecutions for two years until June 2006.

He will be the first Attorney General for Tonga, separate from the portfolio of the Minister of Justice.
